After an evening watching political commentary on MSNBC (wait, don’t stop reading yet), I couldn’t help but be struck by how polarizing are the likes of Olbermann, Maddow, and Matthews. I admit that from my right-of-center philosophical standpoint, their left-wing ramblings were hard for me to endure. However, it did start me thinking about their general modis operandi and their motives. The format for their shows, and similar shows on other networks, follows a fairly consistent pattern. If there exists a “how-to” guide for political pundits on TV, I would guess it goes something like this: (Note: Sensitive readers may wish to engage their satire shields at this time.)

No, This Isn't Me

Catchy title for a blog post, isn’t it? It’s the kind of melancholy humor that arises from what seems like a sad truth. Unfortunately, I cannot claim this witticism as my own; Emma Goldman beat me to it. Emma Goldman was an anarchist that witnessed the dawn of the 20th century. In her day, she was known for her political activism and her key role in the development of the anarchist political philosophy in North America and Europe. If Emma was alive today, I suspect her vote of choice in the past few national elections would have been “None of the Above.” I can’t say that I would blame her. In fact, I fantasized about just such a choice leading up to the 2008 Presidential election. Heck, it beat thinking about how I really would cast my vote.
